Infantry Platoon

This is the standard organization of a Republic infantry platoon. The organization is quite straightforward: three infantry squads supported by a weapon squad and a command team.

The squads are explained elsewhere.

The weapons squad provides quick-response heavy weapons support for the squads. The weapons squad is composed of two VAATIM (Versatile Anti-Aircraft/Tank Intelligent Missile) teams, which form the backbone of the squad, and two AT team armed with 20mm rail drivers and disposable AT rockets. One of these is headed by the squad sergeant, the other by the squad L-corporal. Individually these soldiers are armed with either assault carbines or PDWs.

The command team consists of the platoon lieutenant and his platoon sergeant, a radioman and the platoon medic. A company-level arty/mortar spotter is usually attached with the command team.

Unmounted platoons (1+5+33(+3)) rely on two company-level trucks for the squads and a heavy command jeep.

Motorized platoons (1+5+33(+4)) have three company-level APCs for the squads and four light jeeps for the weapons squad. Command team has a command truck.

Mechanized platoons (1+5+34(+1)) assign IFVs to the squads, while the weapons squad has four light armored jeeps and the command team has a command APC.

Air assault platoons (1+5+33(+3)) are assigned three combat assault VTOLs for the squads and two medium transport VTOLs for an unmounted weapons squad and the command team.

Paratrooper platoons (1+5+33) have an identical organization to unmounted platoons, but transportation is by dropping out of an orbiting vessel in drop caskets or by jumping from an in-atmosphere E/EA craft.

Aerospaceborne platoons (1+5+33(+3)) have an identical organization to air assault platoons, but with E/EA dropships replacing VTOLs.
