Description
The m/10 FlaK Vest serves as a replacement for the m/07 infantry armor vest in the Republic military. The new flak vest is made from improved impact-hardening cevlar. The basic fabric of the vest is thus lighter than previous generations of cevlar and will harden whenever struck with a strong impact.
The vest is worn with knee and elbow pads providing protection to these important limb joints. Combat gloves with jointed cevlar padding are also standard issue.
The helmet is a new design, providing less weight, user comfort and modularity, but with less coverage in the basic configuration when compared to the m/08 design with an integrated communication system and camera. The helmet can mount smart electronics that can interface with the soldier him/herself through a touch-wireless interface.
The vest features PALS in seven rows and featuring full modability front to back. The vest is closed and adjusted with strengthened velcro. Velcro pads also close plate pouches on the vest and crotch flap. The flap can be "stowed" by attaching the velcro on the flap to the velcro on the upper chest of the vest. The plate pockets can support additional cevlar pads, ceramic, metallic or polymer plates of varying strength and weight. The detachable shoulder pads are made from hardened cevlar and have hooks for holding weapon slings and pack harnesses. The pads also feature the same stowing loops and clips as the tactical vest.
The back has a pouch for a hydration bladder (the opening for the straw is obscured by the shoulder pads).
The armor provides Grade 1 protection (light soft armor) in the Republic military armor scaling system. Protective properties are graded as III/II (NIJ IIIA on ballistic defense, total resistance against light energy weapons).
As this is THE BASIC armor in the Republic military, all soldiers are issued this with the presented additional items. Even more additional items can be used, such as greaves, bracers, enhanced upper arm protection, thigh armor and hardened neck protection.
A signalmans/UAV operators vest has an inbuilt antenna wire inside the vest itself, with a connector port for a PALS-mounted comms unit. The antenna is able to communicate with low-orbit elements (satellites, aircraft, or a ship) and the on-ground range is dependent on the power and frequency range of the comms unit itself.
Armor and uniform have not been camouflaged for clarity.
